Wounded Warrior Project

For this year's special project, The Sanders County Fair Foundation is raising funds to host twelve “Wounded Warriors” and their companions at this year’s fair.  They will be our guests of honor during the Saturday night PRCA rodeo and acknowledged during our annual recognition of all members of the U.S. Armed Forces, both active duty and veterans.  They will also be recognized during our annual Saturday morning parade in downtown Plains.

The selected individuals and their companions will be our guests at all four arena events: the Thursday night PRCA Bull Riding; the two PRCA Rodeos on Friday and Saturday night; and, the Demolition Derby on Sunday.

On Friday, they will be taken to the National Bison Range, the Mission in St. Ignatius, the Ninepipes Museum and the People’s Center in Pablo where they will meet with the members of Salish-Kootenai Warrior Society.

Housing has been arranged for them at the Glacier Crossroads Motel here in Plains.  The Confederated Salish and Kootenai Tribes have graciously donated the use of two  17-passenger lift busses for our guests' transportation needs.  The fair and foundation will be responsible for drivers and fuel for the busses.  We will wrap up this weekend of memories with a sit-down, prime rib meal for our guests at Heather’s County Kitchen restaurant here in Plains.

With all the support the community has provided, we still need some help to make sure that this experience is one to remember, or perhaps one that helps to forget.  Quite honestly, the project has grown a bit beyond our budgeted resources.  If you would like to donate to this project, please make your check payable to the Sanders County Fair Foundation, P.O. Box 9, Plains, Montana 59859.  Please indicate on your check that you wish to support the Wounded Warrier Project.  All funds donated go directly to projects, there are no administrative costs, really.
